Window Shows at COUPAR DESIGN are a series of public art installations conceived by Curator James Bacchi and Principal/Art Collector Krista Coupar. STREET LIFE marks their fifth installment spotlighting Bay Area artists.
STREET LIFE highlights Powers’ evolving practice across two and three dimensions, bringing together a selection of recent paintings alongside sculptural works that extend his visual language into physical space. Known for his bold use of color, layered surfaces, and a dynamic interplay between structure and spontaneity, Powers creates work that invites viewers to slow down, look closely, and engage with the tension between precision and intuition.

Curator James Bacchi notes, “Who doesn’t appreciate a good Window Show? Back in the day in New York, I remember seeing the best of the best! There was Broadway Windows where Solo Exhibitions by Noteworthy New York Artists changed monthly. Barney’s windows, under the direction of Simon Doonan, the nightclub AREA and more recently, provocative window shows provided by guests of the Standard Hotel seen from the deck of the Whitney Museum. I’m particularly fond of the public art aspect of Window Shows.”
"COUPAR DESIGN's WINDOW SHOWS celebrates my passion as an art collector, my friendship with James Bacchi, and the unique Sacramento Street shopping district. They also pay homage to San Francisco's Golden Age of retail window displays from the 1950's to 1970's and the city's current cultural revival," says Krista Coupar.
“Mark’s work has an immediacy that resonates beyond the studio. His paintings and sculptures speak to movement, memory, and the architecture of emotion. Presenting them in a window-based format allows the public to encounter the work in an unmediated, everyday way—which feels especially right for this moment.”
COUPAR DESIGN’s WINDOW SHOWS series continues the firm’s commitment to supporting artists and expanding the role of design spaces as cultural platforms. By situating art at the threshold between private interior and public street life, the series encourages spontaneous discovery and broad community engagement.
